Casa Pueblo

Casa Pueblo is a community-based organization focused on the protection and management of natural resources. Casa Pueblo began when community members got together to stop a gold mining operation in 1980. Since then, it has become a leader in struggles for sustainable development in Puerto Rico, including the fight for energy independence as a key step in Puerto Rico’s self-determination and decolonization. Casa Pueblo simultaneously fights for systemic change to make Puerto Rico’s entire energy system sustainable while building up the capacity for communities to generate affordable solar energy today.
